“But, my dog already has great manners! Why should I get Pub Dog Approved?”

Getting Pub Dog Approved isn’t just about proving your dog has great manners—it’s about creating a more dog-friendly community for everyone.

When dogs are well-behaved in public spaces, businesses are more likely to welcome them, making outings more enjoyable for dog owners and non-dog owners alike. By completing this evaluation, you show that you’re a responsible pet parent, helping set the standard for polite, stress-free experiences at cafes, pubs, and beyond. A well-mannered dog means fewer disruptions, safer interactions, and a more inclusive environment where everyone can relax and have a good time!

Are You and Your Dog Pub-Ready?

Going out in public is NOT for every dog. In fact, many dogs would rather stay home and watch a movie with you. To be honest, going out in public with a dog is NOT for EVERY HUMAN either. When you bring your best buddy with you, your outing is no longer just about you! You need to pay attention to your dog, listen to what they need and be able to leave if they want to leave.

But, if you think you and your dog would enjoy getting out and about, here are some guidelines to know if you’re ready.

Are YOU Ready?

  • Do you know your dog’s limits? You want to be open and able to learn how to you recognize when your dog is uncomfortable and is telling you it’s time to go home.

  • Do you have the right gear? Do you have a flat collar or harness for your dog? A well-behaved dog does not need harsh corrections like a pinch, prong or shock collar.

  • Are you considerate of others? If you are prepared to manage your dog’s space and keep interactions polite (between people and dogs) it’s time to become Pub Dog Approved!

Is Your Dog Ready?

  • Is your dog calm and collected? Your dog needs to be RELAXED in busy environments and let the world just happen around them…you know, like a chill pub dog!

  • Can they greet other humans and dogs politely? Pub Dogs do not pull, lunge or show excessive excitement when greeting other people and dogs. They can give a nod of the head and walk on by!

  • Is your dog comfortable around noises and movement? You don’t want to create stress for your best buddy, so if they are comfortable around lots of people, noises and sounds, they may be ready to get Pub Dog Approved!

That’s OK!

Not every person likes to go out and about with their dogs and MOST DOGS don’t like being around that many sounds, smells and movement. Getting Pub Dog Approved is not for every dog and guardian.
