Puppy Training: In-Person,
Semi-Private Puppy Classes
Early training can save your dog’s life.
And puppies are ADORABLE! But they are also a lot of work. You want to do the right thing by training and socializing your dog, unfortunately most training classes and socialization times can do more harm than good.
You want a household that is free from the chaos of barking, aggression, separation anxiety and chewing destruction. The truth is, simple obedience classes and socialization won’t get you there.
What we ask of our pup has changed, so we must change the way we train them.
Most puppy training focuses on obedience commands that honestly, your dog will most likely learn on it’s own anyway (sit, down, shake, etc). And socialization is generally misunderstood and based on interactions with other dogs. This approach usually leaves dogs feeling overwhelmed and humans frustrated.
It is VITAL you learn proper training and socialization for your dog. And Casa Luna Canines wants to be your partner in puppy training, human learning.
Every Class begins with a virtual private consultation.

We keep our classes small.
Many puppy class environments have too many dogs and it’s stressful for you and your young pup. You end up spending the entire class trying to STOP bad behaviors and end up unconsciously introducing the training techniques that cause even worse behavior problems in the future.
We have a sterile environment for the youngest pups.
If your dog is too young to have had all the necessary vaccines, you simply can’t risk taking your pup to a pet store, community center or other public environment. Due to our background in service dog training, we know the importance of a sterile environment - not just clean. This lets you have the peace of mind your pup is safe.
We don’t give you a checklist to follow, as if your dogs needs are generic, but will give you direction!
Puppy socialization and enrichment are more than just running through checklists. They are about strengthening the bond between you and your dog by making learning fun! Checklists that have you going to as many places and having as many experiences you can, without YOU understanding how to make those interactions with the environment safe, positive and stress-free will actually land you with a ton of frustration because your dog may be associating the world with stress, fear and overwhelm!
We focus on training for great behavior, not just commands
Some commands may be necessary to teach your dog. But the truth is, they will learn to sit, lie down and usually do some tricks fairly quickly. And commands will never help you if you have a dog that doesn’t want to listen to you in the first place. So we help you focus on the behaviors you WANT your pup to develop by learning to shape your dog’s brain throughout their life.
Flexible start date!
If you have to wait 2 months for a new round of puppy classes to begin, you simply won’t have a puppy any more for training! We offer the chance to start any week, and even a pay-as-you-go option (this isn’t great for everyone so feel free to contact us to discuss!)
Is this right for me and my puppy?
Consider joining WagTime or Puppy Power if you have a dog who has received the first DHPP vaccination shot (for WagTime) or ALL shots for Puppy Power and YOU are ready to learn more than obedience training. Puppies are not meant to “work” for long training sessions so we take lots of breaks to play, sniff and have brain enrichment time.
Group learning is beneficial because both dogs and humans can learn while observing others during class or on “down” times. Being around a large group in a new environment can be stressful for you and your dog. We keep our classes small (semi-private) because we know how important it is to create an optimal learning environment to set you up for success.
If your dog is older than 6 months, check out our Doggie Decorum, a class focused on teaching appropriate manners for every dog.
Not addressing your puppy’s training needs can cost you thousands of dollars later in their life.
In the first months of their life, dogs make millions of associations to their environment and decide what is “good”, “bad”, and “scary” and these impressions can last a life-time. A “bad” (or traumatic) experience can lead to behavior issues that cost you thousands of dollars later in the dog’s life.
Vet Bills when your dog is bitten or (yikes!) did the biting
Hiring a Behaviorist to address your dog’s separation anxiety
Canceling plans every weekend because you can’t leave your dog alone
Finding a specialized pet-sitter because your dog is too stressed for a kennel
That’s why it’s essential that puppy socialization and training happen in a positive and controlled manner, which avoids exposing them to overwhelming or traumatic experiences that could lead to fear or anxiety. No experience is better than a bad experience.
We get it! Puppies are ADORABLE! And that’s great, but also the problem!
Puppies may be one of the cutest thing on the planet! We know! And it’s also why humans can mess up training so early. Giving in to puppy cuteness and allowing them to free-roam the house, eat and sleep where they want and constantly play and be in a state of over-arousal will set YOU up for a life-time of frustration.
It is VITAL that you introduce your puppy to the world in a way that allows them to have positive associations with the most amount of “stuff” out there. This is “proper socialization”. It is not just playing with other dogs, like how humans define socializing. The goal is to help puppies become well-adjusted, confident, and sociable adult dogs that can function in the human world. By exposing them to different environments, people, and other animals and ensuring a positive experience, they learn to be comfortable and relaxed in various situations, reducing the likelihood of developing fear or aggression issues later in life.
Puppies learn at a different pace and speak a different language than older dogs.
Puppies and dogs, though the same species, actually speak very different languages and learn at extremely different paces that adult dogs. That’s why it’s important to separate them in classes, and actually, at home, too!
Puppies have the attention span of…well, a puppy! They need a LOT of rest and breaks. When you help them shape their brain, not just run around in high arousal, you’ll see they actually get tired quite quickly. And a puppy that has worked it’s brain does not get in to mischief and cause chaos.
We have combined our puppy age group classes due to local demand, but we understand the learning stages are very distinct and they have different needs so we do our best to accommodate the new puppies from the more seasoned high energy puppies.
In class, we’ll help you learn about the difference between puppies and dogs as well as how to safely introduce your dog to other dogs, including how to manage multi-dog households.

WagTime for Puppies (8 to 16 weeks old)
WagTime is Currently Paused and will be re-released in FALL 2024
Please contact us to see if Puppy Power Enrichment is appropriate for you and your dog
Proper Socialization and Beginning Training
If you just brought your adorable puppy home, WagTime for Puppies is for you. This is a training and socialization class for the youngest pups (8-16 weeks) who have had at least one DHPP shot.
We believe it is imperative to start you and your dog heading in the right direction early in life.
Puppy Socialization is NOT simply interaction with other dogs. In fact, the best course may be NO INTERACTION with other dogs! Puppy Socialization is actually helping your dog learn to CHOOSE YOU over their environments. While you want to introduce new environments and stimuli to your puppy in a slow and controlled manner, you REALLY need to teach them that the majority of the world is NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS! This helps them adapt to our human world and make positive associations with the most “stuff” out there.
Program includes:
How to properly introduce new environments to your puppy! They need to experience different kinds of flooring, lighting, play toys, crates, kennels and maybe even BUBBLES (because no one should be stressed about bubbles), and we help you understand how to make the interactions positive.
The foundations of HOW dogs learn so you can teach basic commands like sit/down/stay/come when called (recall)/leave it
What to do when there is unwanted behavior
How to introduce your dog to other dogs, even in a multi-dog household
Puppy Power Enrichment (4 to 6 months)
Training, Proper Socialization and Enrichment
5 week series, $250, Start Any Available Week
Step 1: Choose Orientation Day/Time
Step 2: Fill out Class Intake Form and Continue to Payment
Step 3: Attend orientation on the phone to customize your program and choose your skills class dates
Puppy Power is a course designed for puppies 4 to 6 months. Some older dogs may be appropriate for class. Contact us if you’re not sure.
The classes are divided into 3 sections: Introduction of a new cue or skill, enrichment training through games and puzzles and time to play.
We help you and your dog learn:
appropriate greetings (people and animal),
crate training,
introducing new training and grooming tools and
how to teach the basic commands of sit/down/stay/come/leave it
We’ll also teach you about and help you prepare for adolescent dog behavior. During your dog’s adolescent years they have one job - to drive you crazy and make you question your reality!! It’s also a time the can develop many odd behaviors that lead to trouble, usually related to their association with a “bad” experience.
Puppy Power is a great course to repeat while your dog is young, both to ensure the training patterns are fresh in the brain of the puppy (and you!) and to keep adding more games and experiences to your training knowledge while you learn with your dog.
There is an opportunity to take the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Evaluation on a 6th date if you complete the full class series (A.K.C. Regulations).
